Shayna Simoneaux Shayna Simoneaux Glenforest School, a K–12 non–profit day school dedicated to educating and celebrating students who learn differently, announces Shayna Simoneaux, newly appointed Community Relations director. She joins the Glenforest community to maintain and support external communications, facilitate marketing, public relations, fundraising, and development on behalf of the non–profit school. The Glenforest Community gladly welcomes Simoneaux as its latest addition; she brings with her specialty skills and expertise, already proving her as a valuable asset to the school.”

Simoneaux is responsible for coordinating, enhancing and facilitating communications and connections between the community and school; providing support services for the exchange of information; increasing awareness; maintaining and articulating the school’s positioning in the public setting; helping others gain better understanding of “Learning Differences” (also known as learning disabilities); and supporting and assisting Glenforest faculty and staff in efforts to continue upholding the school’s mission.

In this new role, Simoneaux functions in various capacities—encompassing public relations, marketing, advertising, event planning and production, fundraising, development, creative writing and design, and orchestrating imaginative collaborations with community members to better serve children and families living with learning differences in Columbia.

When it comes to understanding students with Learning Differences, and the academic challenges these students face, Simoneaux possesses a distinctly useful, personal perspective. Through her own experiences, as a young dyslexic student at school (who then struggled alone to overcome educational challenges and obstacles without access to the proper resources or scholastic support she needed,) she can uniquely identify with Glenforest’s students. These practical insights have encouraged her connection and involvement with the school and has hardened her belief in the true difference a Glenforest education makes in the lives of students with learning differences.

Simoneaux, a native of London, England, is a graduate of University College London (UCL), where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History of Art and Anthropology. She began cultivating diverse sales and communications experience working at the high–end of the U.K retail sector for established brand names such as Tiffany & Company, Garrard (The Crown Jewelers), and Jimmy Choo and worked in fashion public relations for an acclaimed British fashion PR agency where she managed communications and media relations on behalf of the firms renown beauty industry clients. After leaping “across the pond” to permanently relocate in Columbia, South Carolina, she completed an internship with the Columbia Museum of Art in the PR and Marketing depart- ment and worked at Free

Times, Columbia’s Alternative News Weekly. Before joining Glenforest she operated and directed the Public Relations, Communications, and Media divisions of Unlimited Marketing Solutions, a full–service advertising and communications agency.

In addition to her professional activities, Simoneaux is involved with South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (SCCADVASA) as a volunteer and serves on the Board for the Contemporaries of the Columbia Museum of Art and is the former marketing chair.

She is also a freelance writer, illustrator and artist and was named “Local Artist of the Month” for June 2010 by the CVB for her “Paintings of Birdies by Shayna.” Her art has been locally exhibited at Columbia Museum of Art (CAY 2008 Exhibit), Capitol City Club, State Museum, Frame of Mind: The Art of Eyewear (solo exhibition), and the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center and her “Birdies by Shayna” jewelry line can be found at various independent boutiques across South Carolina and Florida
